• The squirrel monkey is a New World monkey that is made up of 5 different subspecies. Found in the tropical forests of Central and South America, the squirrel monkey is commonly referred to as the deaths head monkey due to its ominous facial features.

History

In many regions where theyre present, squirrel monkeys are thought of as pests because they often invaded plantations and farms for food. However, this is considered to be a direct result of habitat loss. Although squirrel monkeys as a whole are not classified as endangered, two subspecies are classified as vulnerable due to the previously mentioned loss of their natural habitat coupled with a dwindling supply of their most commonly consumed foods.
