History
Having such a long neck could really be a pain. Fortunately, Giraffes have some pretty amazing features in their design. First, the Giraffes heart has to work hard to pump blood all the way up its neck to reach the brain, but when a Giraffe stoops down to drink, all that blood should just rush to its head. Instead, the Giraffe has valves that close when it lowers its head, keeping the blood flow minimal. Just one valve stays open, allowing a small amount of blood to reach the brain, just enough that the animal isnt dizzy when it straightens up again. We still dont understand exactly why Giraffes have their long necks or what advantage it gives them, but they certainly make the best of their physiology.
