History:

The Giant Squid has long been a mysterious denizen of the depths. For many years, it was known only from sailors tales, scars left on the snouts of Sperm Whales, and dead specimens that would occasionally wash ashore. It wasnt until 2005 that the first images of a living Giant Squid were captured, with video footage confirmed the following year.

The elusive and mysterious nature of the Giant Squid gave it a terrifying reputation, and it probably served as the basis for the mythical Kraken, a legendary sea monster that was believed to single-handedly sink ships (though it is highly unlikely that the Giant Squid can do this). Although the Giant Squid is often depicted in fierce combat with the Sperm Whale, the truth is that the squid is likely fairly easy prey for the larger, heavier whale.
