History:
Blue crabs have been an important resource for many different cultures for centuries. Even in the 1600s, Native Americans and early American settlers harvested blue crabs as a form of sustenance. However, as time progressed blue crabs began to become overharvested, mainly due to their use as an effective bait for fisheries. Because of this, there are now regulations in place to help maintain and safeguard the blue crabs global population.
