History:

Blue crabs have been an important resource for many different cultures for centuries. Even in the 1600s, Native Americans and early American settlers harvested blue crabs as a form of sustenance. However, as time progressed blue crabs began to become overharvested, mainly due to their use as an effective bait for fisheries.
