Black Bears live in all the wild areas of North America, including much of Canada and Alaska, throughout the Rocky and Appalachian Mountains, in the Pacific Northwest and the Ozarks, and in the northern parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
History
Historically, the Black Bear ranged throughout all of North America except for the Arctic, the southwestern desert, and the southern parts of Mexico. Development and excessive hunting pushed Black Bears into a more limited range, but since conservation efforts began in the early 1900s, theyve rebounded, expanding both their range and their numbers. Although shy and elusive, Black Bears have been spotted in 41 states. National Parks, protected areas, education, and managed hunting have all contributed to the Black Bears resurgence and vitality in North America.
