192 Pieces Per Bag. Only Available in Bulk Purchase. The Red Panda is a strange mammal that was once thought to be closely related to bears and raccoons, but is now considered to be in its own family. Despite its name, it is not closely related to the Giant
History:
The Red Panda is considered a living fossil as it has no close relatives alive today. It has been previously placed in many mammal families, including the Raccoon family and Bear family, and was once placed in a separate family along with the Giant Panda. Though they share a name, it is now understood that these two animals are not so closely related as previously thought.
Red Pandas are endangered, facing threats including habitat loss due to deforestation, and collection for the illegal pet trade. They remain popular zoo animals, though the capture of wild animals for captive exhibits has gone down since its endangered status was established. It is estimated that there may be anywhere from 2,500 to 20,000 Red Pandas still left in the wild.
