The G6 Rhino is a modern South African self-propelled gun. The first prototypes of the vehicle were created in the early 1980s, and serial production continued in the period 1988-1999, ending with the production of 154 vehicles. The G6 Rhino is powered by a single engineMagirus DeutzModel FL 413 F / FRwith 525 hp. It was armed with a 155-caliber G5 howitzer and a single 12.7mm Browning M2 machine gun.

After the introduction of the towed G5 howitzer, the South African army quickly realized the need to introduce its mobile version. For this purpose, an appropriately modified chassis and hull of the Ratel APC were used, and the aforementioned gun was mounted on it. The resulting G6 Rhino entered mass production in 1988. It turned out to be one of the most powerful self-propelled guns with wheel traction in the world. It is characterized by good maneuverability, considerable resistance to the explosion of mines and the so-called fugas, and the G5 howitzer has a lot of range and a good rate of fire. The G6 Rhino was used in combat in the final stages of the conflicts between South Africa, Angola and Namibia (1966-1990) and in the Yemen civil war that broke out in 2015. The G6 Rhino self-propelled gun was exported to Oman and the United Arab Emirates.
